Learning Letter

Throughout the entirety of this course, the text presentations and the content portfolio project were the most beneficial for me. I have struggled with finding resources for teaching methods in the past because up until this class I have only taken one education course. I thought that presenting in front of other classmates that are going into the education field as well taught me a lot as well. Presenting in a classroom environment where we were all struggling with applications and NES tests, we are in a more open environment than in most classrooms. It takes the pressure off of the public speaking, which I thought helped us as students learn more of the material that was shown. I also really enjoyed the content portfolio project, because I felt that looking back on my past experiences through an educational lens showed me how to be more intentional with every assignment I complete. “Learning and Not Learning English” by Guadalupe Valdes Description : This text goes into detail about English Language Learners and their place within classrooms when it comes to English Language Arts. It is especially important because of language barriers that occur with all classrooms, but when teaching Language Arts as a teacher you have to approach ELL’s with different teaching tactics. “Learning and Not Learning English” uses examples of ELL students and uses their perspectives to explain the complexity of teaching English in diverse classrooms. Not only does this text help teachers teach ELL's but focuses on reaching these students so that they do not get discouraged in learning. English Language Arts classes can be discouraging for ELL’s because of the language barrier, and can push students to lose motivation.
